brake issue

Postby gnomepunter » December 28th, 2013, 8:42 pm

I have not owned my 89 teg long so I am going through some things that need to be done and well I need brakes.went to the parts store today and got two rotors and a set of brakes.but when I got home and took off the old rotor I found it to be much larger.it had an outside measurement of 11inches and an inside(where it mounts to the hub) of 2 1/2 inches.well I had to take those back.so anyone have any idea whats up here?

Sounds like a screw up. The CRX/Civic rotors will bolt up but they are smaller. I'd take them back and maybe go with a different brand if the part number is correct.

ok sry guys for the laaaate response been without internet.but the part number on the caliper is 17cl14vn
the number I found on the brake pads are 07-8300-17 I think the caliper is from a 94 to 01 teg.from best I can find from google.but the rotors on the car are the ones that measure 11 outside with 2 1/2 inside the ones that the parts store give me were to small any idea where to start on finding rotors the only number I can find on the rotors are the min. thickness which is 20.and I don't think that's going to help me.

correction the caliper is from a 90 to 93 accord.still cant figure out where the rotor came from though.as it is one inch bigger than those on the accord.anyone know the inside measurment (the opening that goes around the center hub when mounted) of the fastbrakes smooth 11 inch rotors.

Not sure on brake swapability but I do know the fastbrakes kit uses redrilled rotors from the VW Corrado. Those might be a worth taking a look at.

11"/ 269mm would be an unusual size for 4x100 Honda factory brake rotors.
1g Integra was 242mm,
2g & most 3g Integras 262mm that sounds like it may fit 1g with 90-93 Accord WAGON calipers if that's any help?

You have purchased a car with a Fastbrakes Big Brake upgrade kit. The rotors you need are for a 1991 VW Corrado. The brake pads you need are from whatever Fastbrakes uses Honda calipers for the calipers for the G1.

yea im thinking your right about the fastbrakes kits.Im going to order them shortly.but as for my calipers I have 17cl14vn calipers.upon digging around google more I think the pads I will need will be from a 94 to 01 integra gsr.also upon searching more I found a post talking about mini cooper rotors.so I went and bought one to check it out.well upon removing my wheel and old rotor I found that the center of the cooper rotor was to small, but then something caught my eye.my rotor had a small ring around the outside of the center of the hub(hub centric ring from fastbrakes maybe?)I removed the ring but then the cooper rotor was to big :( .so the rusty gears in my brain started turning.so upon researching the mini cooper rotor compared to the vw corrado rotor(the one fastbrakes uses for the kit)I found that the corrado has an inside hub mounting diameter of 65mm.the mini cooper rotor has a measurement of 64.1 mm.so I may take this one rotor and try to mark a outline with the old rotor.then grind out the difference.also the only other problem is that the caliper mounting bracket is slightly to thick.by my measurement 1/16 in so by grinding this amount off (IF DONE PROPERLY) this should all fit.

but if I am looking at the right rotor on fastbrakes.aside from shipping the fastbrakes will be cheaper to go with.
