Brake rotor and caliper upgrade

Postby Team Type R » November 20th, 2012, 6:37 am

Do you guys know of any 'bolt-on' upgrades? For newer hondas there is talk of fitting (new)mini rotors with prelude calipers to give bigger brakes. What do we have as options?

My car currently has the slightly larger 87-89 front brakes on it.

Fastbrakes makes a kit here: http://www.fastbrakes.com/product_p/fb% ... h2%20e.htm
There's a dogbone bracket that allows you to bolt on later Integra calipers and use a larger disc. A few people here are running it.

Stock wheels don't fit. You have to go with 15's and they totally fill the wheel. Hopefully someone does post a picture. I can't remember who has the kit.

We on it! Parts are here, we have to machine a couple pieces for the swap as well. aka hub centric rings to keep them center and whatnot.

Another OEM variety - simple with just some grinding to be done......

First gen CRV ('99 - 03) caliper with the outer edge ground down with a 9" grinder and the middle opened up to allow a much thicker disc;

Nissan Pulsar SSS (N15 2.0l) rotors

Pads are the CRV normal pads and these calipers are the same as the Type R (DC2) caliper; Accord Aerodeck (CB9)

Integra standard-
diameter = 242 Height = 44.5 New thickness = 19 Minimum Thickness = 17 Centre hole daimeter =61
Pulsar
Diameter = 257 Height = 45 New thickness = 26 Minimum Thickness = 24 Centre Hole Diameter = 61

Wouldn't this add alot to the sprung weight?

I guess this doesn't make a difference to me, my tires are old and not sticky, so the tires would start skidding way before the normal brakes hit their stopping limits.

it adds about 2kg more to each of the front wheels - so in essence the increased brake capability far exceeds any issue with sprung or unsprung weights of the car when taken as a package. My track lap times are not that consistent that it would be significant most of the time it is plus or minus 3 seconds out of 110 seconds.........

hey 247chrisian

10/97 - 10/02 CRV calipers yes discs no, the discs need to be from the Pulsar model to fit, you'll need to do some grinding and all will then be fine - fits under 14" wheels as well.

Brake pads on CRV are DB1206 (Bendix Aust part number) and the original ones are Db429

Originals - 110 mm x 44 mm
CRV - 135mm x 53mm

based on rough calculation ~45% increase in contact surface area with the different sized brake pads

Hi Guys will take some photos soon - car is currently being used as a Christmas present storage facility (funny to watch the children near to the car and not seeing what's sitting inside of it) so will be able to get access to it just after the big day.

d16a3: We have to do a little research to figure out the US models which use the rotors as we don't have N15 Pulsars here. Oh yeah and pics would be great and other information such as any changes in brake hoses, etc. when you have a chance.

ahh looks like the first gen US Infiniti G20 might be it and perhaps the 200sx Se-R.
In the future, everything will work.
