Axel Nut lock Removal

Postby randombeliever1 » July 30th, 2015, 2:25 am

Anyone have tips on how to remove my axel nut lock bearing? I tried using a breaker bar and I ended up breaking it. I tried using a flathead and hammering out the indented part and no luck. It looks like the previous person who tried to take it off used heat and it looks somewhat welded together. I'm running out of options. Can someone offer some insight?

Make sure that little lock lip is completely hammered out so it doesn't catch in the groove. Other than that, PB, patience, and a really big breaker bar with a 4ft piece of steel pipe over the handle. It's one of the toughest bolts on any car.

Use a punch and a BFH to bend that lip back. Soak it in Kroil or PB Blaster and use a breaker bar to remove the axle nut. If you can't get the nut off take it by a local shop and see if they can impact it off real quick then spin it back on. Once the corrosion is broken it will be easier to take it off again.

Expose lock nut, pry lip back, put wheel back on, strong breaker bar touching driveway, drive car forward I think (jsut make sure youre loosening not tightening. Something will give.

Drive to a shop with a good impact gun, have them remove them, then put them back on but not with the gun and drive home and remove them, done
