89 Integra 5spd problems

Postby 925cody » September 22nd, 2015, 6:27 am

well my car starts and runs strong, only problem is when putting the car in reverse. so you CAN slap it into reverse and get it moving, but as soon as you reapply the clutch the whole car seizes and comes to a grinding halt. we just replaced the clutch and its still doing this ( 89 integra fly wheel with no pilot bearing? anyone can confirm its not supposed to have a spot for bearing because there isnt in this fly wheel.) my brother and I think the problem is the differential.

There is no pilot bearing for these engine/trans. If you diff works fine in the forward direction it should work fine in reverse. I might be more tempted to say something is up with the reverse idler gear inside of the trans. Perhaps it's bound up on the idler shaft not allowing it to spin the output shaft. Will the car roll when the clutch is disengaged and it's in reverse?

There is supposed to be a pilot bushing in there. Did you tighten the pressure plate bolts to the factory spec? Did you lube the output shaft of the trans?

So after finally removing the transmission, the main shaft ripped away from the housing and pretty much shredded the whole thing up. Might be able to salvage a few gears but she's toast. Junked the car and bought a new one
Edit:sorry for grave digging just wanted to let you guys know what the problem was

I know this thread is dead but just to clarify, I've had my 88 SE 5 speed out many times, no doubt, there is no pilot bearing. Not sure if Biscuit made a typo, or what, but the 88-89s don't use one. You just clean the hole in the flywheel and apply some grease.
