g2 Tranny into g1, San Jose mechanic?

Postby ms2000 » May 10th, 2015, 11:45 pm

My g1 had a used tranny (with sticky valves) put in in 2007 at 140k
It now has 165k - minor slip

I was out of this forum during the updating process and I forgot some names - somone from AZ told about putting g2 tranny.

Is there a affordable mechanic who can do it in San Jose and wire it up for g1 neatly?

No g2 trans will fit the d16 g1 engine. In fact, no other trans will fit. 5sp or automatic.

@evtsteward - I am sorry - not sure what you are saying.

Mine in Auto - in this forum, it was told that g2 Auto tranny has the same bolt pattern as g1
But one has solenoid inside and the other it is not
Are you saying that this is not the case?

The G2 is 1990-93. That will not fit.
I told you about the 88-89 transmission being compliant but that is still a G1, just with some slight changes from the initial 86-87 versions.

I agree the g2 tegs auto or manual will not fit. They both have different trans mounts also. The only fix is like you mentioned, the 86-87 auto trans has an internal torque converter lockup solenoid, the 88-89 has an exterior solenoid. That said, you can put the 88-89 trans in your 86-87. You'll need to install a dash switch to a relay to provide power to the solenoid. Keep in mind that you leave it off when around town (less than 40mph) and engage it when on the freeway. The thing to remember is when exiting the freeway you need to switch it off again or sometimes the lockup on the torque converter will cause the engine to stall. Been there and have done this. Worked fine. The only way to circumvent this method is to study the 88-89 ECU and it's wire harness to the engine bay and see which wire is needed to let the ECU control your lock-up.

No travel plans in the near future. My work and integra addiction is taking all my time. Appreciate the offer though! Would be nice to see all the peeps I've talked with over the years of running this site.

I bought a transmission about a month ago and got it installed. Now... no 5th and no reverse. 1-4 works fine, its just fifth gear and reverse that are not working. Cable is fine, mounts are new. Did i buy a broken tranny?

Never, ever will a g2 trans fit up against a D16A1 engine block. Only a first gen CG trans works as a 5 speed in a first gen Integra. That is all. . . . .

Hey im looking for the wire that is for the reverse in a manual 94 gs. that comes off the tranny and wires into the main harness infront of the fan. the little white clip part must be broken in mine, when you pull on it it works sometimes, I replaced the wires and still nothing, so now im looking for the whole wire from the tranny right to the fan
