I just bought my 4th first gen teg with a broken timing belt. I did however manage to score it from the original owner who loved it dearly and for the low low price of $200. He said he took it to a shop and they recommended him another engine, due to the crankshaft binding up when turned, but I say I can pull the head and replace some valves and be good to go!
It's time to play timing belt valve roulette!
