Postby chedda_j » September 16th, 2012, 5:36 am

New for sale:

Spherical Conversion Kits for your front subframe

The torsion bar spherical conversion will be around $200.00 shipped.

This will include the following:

2 sleeves
2 double sealed spherical bearings (pressed in)
2 grease nipples (including shields and nuts)
2 torsion arm spacers
2 retaining bolts

The control arm kit will be around $200.

This kit will include:

2 adapter sleeves
2 double sealed spherical bearings (pressed in)
4 retaining bolts
2 grease nipples (including shields)
4 inner adapters

Now if we can work on a group buy, I was going to offer the whole package for $375.

Although I can never explain it as good as David does, there are significant attributes to bearings over bushings in these locations. As the knuckle turns, it rotates on the ball joint and upper shock mount. Because we have a torsion bar and control arm combination, these two locations move off axis, cause load on.the torsion bushings and control arm bushings. The spherical bearings allow them to move as engineered to move freely without loading, greatly improving feel and steering.

Here this will explain it better. Have a look at the rotational pictures.

Ok so I have some more updates.

To start here is a picture of the control arm ready for a spacer.

Image

And now a picture of the aluminum spacer.

Image

Here is the spacer installed.

Image

And here is a picture with the nut and spacer installed. This is where it gets interesting, note the angle of the bolt.

Image

Now note the angle again with the arm in the opposite direction. You really can see how off axis these things really move and why these bearings are such a huge upgrade.

Image

Here is what I had to do to get the grease nipple to work properly. This will be the easiest way to do it, trust me.
I drilled a small hole, down the center of the control arm, where there was already a hole started, then cross drilled at 90 degrees to allow the grease to flow into the bearing.

Cross drilled yo!

Here is the nipple installed and the grease flowing into the bearing.

And another photo of it complete.

Image

Here are the grease nipple protectors, stitched on.

Thats it, thats all for now folks. They are now completed blueprinted and ready to be produced. Im thinking of including a tap, and the drills that you need for the couple holes in the kit, just for ease of installation.

This is looking pretty awesome. I am looking for some suspension upgrades to get the racecar handling better. Is there a chance this stuff will go on without removing the subframe and/or welding.

There is no welding required, unless you want to add the couple nipple protectors.

You can install them while the subframe is installed, but to take the subframe out only takes 1/2 hour and the removal of about 10 bolts, is well worth it to be able to remove the torsion bars, and be able to get the subframe onto a press, or into a vice. Just will make your life way easier.

Ok for those who are ready to order, I'm ready to start making them. I am looking for a deposit of $150 prior to starting each order. There is some real interest in these, so I hope that we get the deposits very quickly, I want to start these right away. I think we have 4 or 5 people ready. That will be enough for the first set.

Will I be getting one from the first batch you make per our arrangement? Just curious. I have a manual subframe all cleaned up and ready to go missing only your parts.

Its all was finished, I had 7 orders, 5 have been shipped, 1 is on hold, and 1 is still being paid for.

I am currently working on a couple street friendly revisions for the rear trailing arms that uses poly bushings and a much larger spherical to help longevity on bad roads and prevent any kind of vibration. Here is a photo.
