Venom Adjustable Blue Cam Gears on ZC cams

Postby jotcrx » January 19th, 2013, 4:35 pm

Here are the Venom Adjustable Blue Cam Gears ((#C21-127B) lined up on ZC cams.

Note to NOT use the timing lines on the gears for alignment, but 5mm dowel pins to lock the cams when setting the timining.

These gears are not exactly for the the D16A1/ZC engine, but are listed for a 1992-99 Honda Accord SOHC engine, but the diameter and teeth count match up perfectly to our gears. :)

Yes I did...they were adjusted on the dyno and the best settings with the ZC cams for my setup were on the exhaust cam gear, 5 degrees retarded - for the intake, 4 degrees advanced.

On the dyno? I'm a little lost. They used a degree wheel on the dyno? Plus 5 degrees seems very much? What is the installed centerline?

No, we adjusted them while the car was on a dyno machine...we played with them at two degree increments to see where the best engine hp and torque would be. We tried advancing and retarding them both to see what was best. With this current combination, it produces a good overlap to help with more low to mid range torque and hp. You can safely go as far as 6 degrees from what I have read and have been told. Anything more than that and you risk valve and piston interference.
