Recent pics of the swapped 89

Postby redteg73 » September 16th, 2012, 3:52 am

These are the last set of of pics i took on the car. It's an 89 ls with a b18c and a y80 hydro tranny. Stock except for the skunk 2 intake, high tech pvc intake, megan header, flowmaster muffler and high flow cat. Now that i have the extra power i need to get a better suspension setup.

The camber plates were made by firstgencrx over on red pepper racing. It's been awhile since i took that back seat out, i'm not sure i remember. Since i wasn't putting it back, i may have taken the backs off first or something weird like that. The bar is actually an autopower 4 point roll bar. I'll grab some pics of the mounting. I also got a mishimoto second gen radiator wedged in there, so i'll grab some new pics once i get the car off the trailer from this weekend.

I didnt know there was a company that made roll bars for our cars! Did you get the bolt in cross brace when you ordered it?

The rear seat backs have a plastic keeper on the outboard ends. Use a pair of pliers to pull them off. They have a tab to do this with. Then slide them outboard a half inch or so to uncouple them from the middle holder. The bottom has one 10mm bolt holding it into the body in the middle right. Unscrew this and rotate the seat bottom up and forward to unhook the metal prongs. Pick up all the loose change, pens and makeup containers that have migrated under the seat and buy a ice cream treat from that truck rolling down the street out front.

Need to get a better intake. If you can find a B-series swap intake for a EG civic you can make it fit very well with minor cutting near the horn in the front. IT is a true cold air, and is made form plastic so it does not heat soak. I have one and can take pics if you want. I used it until I went turbo with the B18C5.

I would like to see that intake. The fuel filter has been my biggest obstacle to route around. I have been thinking of relocating it or getting something aftermarket.

I got my vss issue figured out. It seems the stock vss wire in the 89 harness was causing the new vss signal to dissapear. I was test driving that issue when i smelled copious amounts of fuel. The fuel line had split the rubber coating, so i got me a pretty new fuel line.

Image

This is my integration of a speedo that should run off the vss signal from the tranny. Not in or hooked up but getting there.

The speed signal from an 88-89 cluster should work properly. On an 86-87 I had to use the signal generated from the cruise control in the cluster and send that to the ECU.

Me and the vss had a go around as my last project. Long story short the old vss circuit got cut out of the ecu harness and there is a dedicated wire from the new tranny to the ecu. I now need a working speedo. The stock one ain't gonna do anything unless i made that vss signal turn a cable somehow.

All you have to do is put the original vss with the calbe into the hydro trans, the gears are the same and it will drive the cable driven speedo just fine. The speedo signal comes from the cluster itself.

Still hoping for pics of the mounting points for that roll bar... also does that diagonal part of the bar get in the way of the passenger seat at all?

Still loving the ride, had to get some different bolts on the iac, as it was hanging off on one side. rearranged some emissions stuff (removed). It was running flawlessly for awhile, then some jerk (me) forgot to put the window up and flooded the interior. ecu ruined, some of the pins on the adapter harness corroded away. I just put it an order for the obd1 connectors and pins, so i will be converting the harness to obd1 inside, no going back. Also going to find a spot to relocate the ecu up on the firewall. I have a spare ecu at home that i had hondata chip but never got the 300 put in. Not sure if that will run it, but worst case I will have to go ahead and get the hondata in it.

So i just finished up the new connectors and pins to make it full time obd1, went to snap the connectors on, didn't lock in to the ecu. Long story short, I used solder along with crimping the pins, and shoved some of the wire too far up into the pins, to where the solder followed. So i blocked up the pins from locking in. So now I think I am going to use half the adapter harness and solder into the wires in the connectors already built. That will leave me only a single pin to replace. So off to building obd1 harness version 2.0

Wiring harness take two seems to be right. The ECU I have that's not been flooded was chipped by hondata and I don't think it has any engine map in it. I have a code zero and the car won't rev past 3k. I guess i need to go ahead and get the s300 put in and tuned.

So this is the location i'm putting the ecu. No jumper harness, it's all wired for the b now. I need to clean up the wiring and what not obviously. It is back up and driving again, it idles slightly high, and for some reason i'm losing my vss signal off and on. I'm just excited it's back on the road!!

So i was autocrossing about a week ago and the car just dropped rpm's until it died. Pulled the distributor cap and examed the carnage. I have no idea where the setscrew went but i suppose it stayed in place for a little while before it just starting walking al over the place. On the plus side I bought a couple new items to try out. http://www.msdperformance.com/Products/ ... 94-01.aspx

Yea still rocking it. i was actually doing deliveries for my second job. All my other cars were unavailable. It's reliable enough, but it's rough going through norfolk and no power steering. I need to get my 94 cranking problem solved, it at least has a semi-compliant suspension and power steering.
