SE Hatch lift struts

Postby evtsteward » March 6th, 2013, 1:18 am

Finally got around to this how to for all us SE owners with the heavier hatchs. First off you'll need two (2) regular length ball studs to replace the lower bolts. The Integra plastic covers will not fit the new strut lifts. Oh well. I got mine from Lift Support Depot thru Amazon.com. They were found by Chedda of Cheddas Auto, thank you. They are BE Ball Stud 10mm=(3/8") Hi Rise M10 X 1.25 thread, part number H9BS10EXTF. They cost $4.95 each plus $3 shipping. The lifts I found by talking directly with Sachs Stabilus research department and they found a 20 lb heavier lifting capacity, over the lifts they provide for the Integra LS and RS. They were meant for an 89' Nissan Sentra part number SG125007 that measures 1.0 inch shorter for $22 plus $7 shipping each from Rock Auto. Don't forget to use a discount code when you go there. Far less than the OEM, if you can find them at $71 each.
To intall the lower ball studs you'll also need to purchase two (2) narrow width 7/16 or 1/2 inch washers since the ones from Sachs are for 8mm or 3/8 inch.
Remove your old struts. Put in the provided studs from Stabilus on the hatch, with washers. Put in the purchased regular length ball studs in the body with washers. Snap into place both ends of both studs and there you go. I've replaced all the struts on all three of my SEs and they are holding up fine.
For less than the price of one OEM you can retrofit your SE for around $60 or less.

Still going.

Those work fine for the LS or RS versions, since the SE has a heavier hatch those won't work, hence my fix. :ugeek:
