Air Con stopped

Postby thebranded » October 9th, 2014, 12:02 am

Summer coming to downunder and when i really need the air it fails. (was working fine last month)

Gas seems good, but I have not done a pressure test, but a reasonable gas release is there. Coil resistance is good, connections to compressor are good. AC switch lights up but compressor does not engage.

I do have an oil leak that has been falling on the compressor, any sort of oil damage to the compressor i should be looking for?

Anything else i can check before i get it re gassed?

You can temporarily pressurize the system to 60 lbs and see if the compressor clutch engages. After that you'll need to bleed the system and recharge. There's only 7 O-rings in the menagerie of tubing and they are still available for 8 bucks in the states. If the clutch is bad then you'll need to find a new compressor. :geek:

cheers Robert,

Would this be enough to test the pressure and allow me to attach pressurise it?

Tubing wrenches and a committment to not cussing is all. Set a day aside for replacement of o-rings. I believe the front bumper needs to be reomoved to access the dryer by the drivers headlight. You can just use a tire inflator to test pressurize the system for clutch engagement. Might get by with the fix-all canisters of refridgerant/oil/leak stop.

Good to hear. Less fussing. Perhaps they put some stop leak in at the same time an that took care of the slow leak. :D
